Artist Statement
I was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and immigrated with my parents to Montreal, Canada at the age of 15. I now live in Calgary, Alberta with my husband and four children.
I personally discovered art quite by accident while searching for my life's passion and believe that it is a true spiritual gift from God that you can only find if you look deep inside.
Although not formally trained, as a child I do remember having several professional artists in my family on my mother's side.
In 2002, I started dabbling in drawing and painting and quickly learned that I had to make it a priority in my life. I've been painting steadily ever since and my pieces are currently in private collections throughout Canada, the United States, Australia, England and Scandinavia. It is truly exciting to be able to touch people all over the world with your creations.
I work mainly with acrylics but I also enjoy working with oil. Creating digital manipulations of my originals for the poster print market also keeps me busy.

I continuously experiment with subjects, textures and colours. Any preconceived notion, to me, is restricting. My art has to come completely from within. Even with commissions, I negotiate to maintain a certain amount of freedom with the subject. The element of surprise is the key and there is something empowering about not knowing what you are going to create. When you let it come directly from your soul it can't be derived or planned. It is not surprising then, that this can be felt by the viewer.
Good (and bad) ideas and thoughts don't come to us when we are consciously thinking about them, they are spontaneous. This is how art is for me and this is how my work is created. Consequently, my subjects are extremely varied. The particular subject, however, has no specific meaning to me at the time, but rather, it's the "feeling" which allows that subject to manifest itself creating it's own personality and mood.
In addition, painting demands full focus. Focus is difficult to achieve in today's society. By emptying my mind through the outlet of artistic expression, I can achieve satisfaction and balance. It is a true spiritual gift that I thank God for each and every day!
